Sleepwear for Sleepless Nights

Hello gorgeous Leggy Lovelies,

One of the questions that gets asked a lot on the Facebook page or via email is “Where the ruddy heck does one buy pyjamas when they’re over 5’10?”

With only three weeks left until my due date, I realise that I’m going to be spending a lot of time in my jim-jams over the coming months, so I need to invest in some nightwear that won’t make me feel completely grotty and may even help me hold on to some semblance of glamour (who am I kidding?).

There are some lovely specialist tall pyjamas out there, but they tend to make more of a dent in the wallet than the abundant non-tall options (us leggy lovelies can’t stock up on Primark sleepwear it seems), so I often look to men’s departments for their girliest offerings.

I’ll be wearing these checked Next pjs (£18) with a variety of t-shirts and feeding vests when Baby Schof arrives.

The “Long” in this style drapes the floor on my 36 inch legs, and the fabric feels lovely as well (they’re 100% cotton, so none of that icky static-against-the-bed-sheets feeling) and available in 3 other colours.

I also like a good chunky alpine slipper (it’s been my slipper of choice for the past few years), and while having a further perusal of the men’s section in Next, came across this burgundy pair (£20). They reach my girly-enough standard and are available up to a Euro 47.

There are lots of long-line vests and tees available at H+M to pop on with your PJs, so there’s no need to go spending a fortune to look boudoir beautiful.

I’m interested to know where you buy your nightwear though. It’s all very well throwing on an old manky t-shirt in the privacy of your own home, but what about when it’s hen-do/ slumber party/ new man over for the weekend time? Where do you find your pretty sleepwear or hungover Sunday attire? Have you bought your pjs in Long Tall Sally? Tallgirls? What’s your verdict?

Ooh, and I need a dressing gown. I’ve ended up buying a size 16-18 Primark number to get the sleeves long enough, but a lovely long-line tall friendly one would be far superior. Let me know if you’ve got any leads.

Leggy Lust: The Next Onesie

Nights in with the boy just got a whole lot cosier…

Next £20. (Glowing reviews on the website too).

Lazy Sunday

These latest snuggly offerings from Long Tall Sally were made for box-set Sundays and re-heated Chinese.

Rhianna recently tweeted a picture of herself wearing a similar onesie to the striped number below. If you and the boyfriend have some weird “cops n robbers” fantasy thing going on, then I bet he’ll be made up when you rock into the bedroom wearing this one.

Onesie £50 / Dressing Gown £55/ Pyjama Bottoms £30

I’ve also lived in my Long Tall Sally Fairilse slippers since my hubby treated me to a pair last Christmas.  LTS has now given them a 2012 update in pretty pink and black.

Slippers, £25

Veg out leggy lovelies 🙂

Tried It On: Tales from the Twittersphere

It’s been a while since the last “Tried It On” post, so I’m making up for it with a bit of a Reader Trieditonathon. These are some of the pretty pieces you’ve been finding outside of the specialist Tall ranges….

Top to Bottom: 5’10 Sara chanced upon this pretty sundress in the Mango sale, 6ft Emma found these “Amazalong” pyjamas in H+M, 6ft Sophie bought these wedges during a trolley dash at her local Asda (available up to a UK size 9), and 6ft Emma (yup, she’s out of the PJs and scrubs up very well) wears a pretty dress from the Coast Sale.

If you’ve found something on the highstreet that works for us leggy lovelies, then snap yourself wearing it/ trying it on and send it to, or tweet @tallthings

You can find some of my own Tried It On pics (including a pretty white Closet number, curve-loving Sainsburys dresses and a racer-back H+M frock) on the ATTT Twitter Feed.

Tried It On: Gap gets Gorgeous

Hey Leggy Lovelies!

Apologies for leaving you hanging on for this week’s first post. I have been struggling to keep on top of my blogging-every-weekday plan thanks to a sudden increase in the day-job workload of late, but I’m squeezing in time where I can. Even if it means that I’m only half watching Wayne Rooney miss some Andy-Carroll-would-have-scored-that goals. Got some lovely sale bargains to share with you now too.

I was doing some modelling for a lighting company last week and was asked to bring some PJs with me. (My modelling work isn’t usually of the catwalk variety; more of the “Ooh, I love this lamp”/ “Wow, this bank makes it possible for me to get a mortgage”/ “Hey, look how much I’m enjoying playing on my mobile phone” variety, and as such I’m often required to bring a few well-chosen items from my own wardrobe). Since my PJ collection consists of faded vest-tops, holey shorts, and an oversized t-shirt with a baked-bean stain, I decided it was probably appropriate to purchase some new nightwear. Knowing Gap’s men’s department usually comes up trumps, I headed in there and found these cute checked pyjamas in the sale for £12.99.

I must confess, I’m not generally the biggest Gap fan. I actually find it a bit blooming dull. But I spotted this pretty floral monochrome summer dress on the sale rack (was £45.95, now £29.99), and it makes a welcome departure from the over-priced basics and dreary chinos. Plus the smattering of florals is so very on trend. A good little BBQ number.

Look at me getting all blogger-like and standing against a brick wall. Although that is a genuine laugh in the bottom-right corner, not the standard blogger pretend one. (Tony from across the road was shouting at me and telling me not to be such a ruddy poser. The man had a point). Oh and my big oversized slouchy bag is from Dune.

Anyone else picked up some long-length delights in the summer sales? (Is it just me or do the sales start get earlier and earlier every year?)

Pyjama Party

Remember those days at school when you could give a quid to charity and wear your pyjamas?

Tall PJs, Topshop £28

Apparently, a few designers failed to see the irony. This season, nightwear became eveningwear as models walked the runways of Stella McCartney, The Row and Jonathan Saunders in silky PJs.

I’m not convinced that this is a trend I’ll be following.  I haven’t yet worked up the courage to walk down to the corner shop in mine to pick up my morning milk. PJs are for sleeping in and for hangover mornings when you curl up on the sofa to watch Something for the Weekend. Particularly when they’re as cosy as these Topshop lovelies.

P.S. If anyone is brave enough and cool enough to wear their PJs on a night out, I want photos please.

Snuggly Slipper Boots

Fairisle Slipper Boots, Long Tall Sally £22

Erm… how cute?

If the thought of wacky footwear in the real world (see last post) brings on an attack of the heebie-jeebies, then how’s about indulging your tootsies in a little Fairisle Fantasy while you’re safely tucked indoors?

These GORGEOUS slipper boots from Long Tall Sally are so super-cute, they’re likely to make your oompa-loompa sized friends green with alpine-knit envy. (Unfortunately there’s already a 2 week wait… DARN IT!… but you can still order them now to avoid disappointment).

P.S. A guide to sizes: Small= UK 7/8, Medium = 9/10, Large = 11. (Bet those of you with size 8 feet never expected to be classed as having a “small” shoe-size… aaaah…)

Tried It On: Borrowed from the Boys

I’ve often heard tall women complain that they have to wear men’s clothes in order to have things that fit.

Right, ladies, let’s straighten a few things out… being able to wear men’s clothes is one of the BEST bloody things about being tall! (Not so much fun for my husband, who is always asking me where his cardis/ jeans/ socks have got to, and last week moaned “Why does everything in my wardrobe smell of GIRL?”)

Cotton PJs, Gap (Men) £19.95

Of course, there is one up-side for my snappy dressed hubby, because, (and most boys will agree) there is NOTHING sexier than seeing a woman dressed in her man’s vest/ shirt/ pjs. So if the need to steal from the men makes you feel masculine and frumpy… stop.that.thought.NOW.

In fact, some of my friends suspected that I only went out with one of my exes to get my hands on his yummy jeans (the relationship fizzled after a few months, but the unreturned jeans are still going strong…)

I don’t think you should ever feel embarrassed to have a snoop in the men’s section. Even though I’m a magpie for handbags, eyeshadows and other things girly, last year I bought a host of gorgeous bits n bobs in the men’s departments of H+M (A lovely checked scarf) and River Island (a straw hat for my VERY girly holiday to Marbella). Since I’m a sucker for slouchy boyfriend-style PJs, I’m always picking them up from bloke-shops, and these gorgeous gingham PJ pants from Gap are far too pretty for the boys. (They’re also 100% cotton… great news for the lovely Claire who wants some easy-to-wear post pregnancy pyjamas in natural fibres).

If you feel self-conscious shopping in men’s shops, just mutter loudly about “always having to do the boyfriend’s shopping…” No one will ever know!

L x

P.S. If you find a lovely long length item — wherever you are in the world — then snap yourself wearing it in the changing room (even the men’s changing room!) and send it to with the details.

Apple Blossom Pyjama Set, Long Tall Sally £40

With Valentine’s Day approaching, I’ll be dropping some seriously unsubtle hints about these pretty pjs from Long Tall Sally.

Slinky, lace-trimmed, and — if my recent Dolce and Gabbana post is anything to go by – slap bang on-trend as well.
